Our Bucks County design-build studio created this elegant pool house for a young, creative couple preparing to start a family. Their vision for their home was clear: they wanted to transform a dark and moody “Sherlock Holmes”-style space into a light-filled, inviting retreat that would be perfect for entertaining friends and future family life. Their love of nature, animals, and eclectic design was the driving inspiration behind this project.
The starting point for the remodel was the couple’s desire to better use the margarita machine they received as a wedding gift, leading to a larger vision of creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. The existing French doors were replaced with fully operable doors that open to the outdoors in both directions, creating a seamless flow between the interior and the pool area. Luxurious seating upholstered in beautiful fabrics invites relaxation, making the space as comfortable as it is functional. The detached outdoor grill was also integrated into the design by connecting it to the pool house, complete with a convenient pass-through to the interior kitchenette.
The couple’s playful and maximalist sensibilities guided the design, with a focus on layers of texture, color, and pattern. A pale blue-green and soft pink palette set the tone for a banquette area that feels both serene and lively. The combination of texture and pattern brought the space to life, with upholstered furniture, layered wall and ceiling treatments, and grounding textiles coming together to create a harmonious design.
The initial kitchen was tucked away in a separate room and had suffered significant water damage. To create a more functional and inviting space, we removed the wall that divided it from the main area, transforming it into an open, cohesive layout. In the redesigned kitchenette, custom cabinetry and marble countertops elevate the ambience, while intricate details—like a custom-made brass swan faucet—add a distinctive charm, seamlessly blending style and functionality. We also incorporated a groove in the bottom of the shelves to run low-profile LED lighting, casting a soft glow over the kitchen counters and enhancing the overall atmosphere.
Durable materials were essential to withstand water from the pool, pets, and future children while also ensuring a timeless aesthetic. Locally sourced tiles added a personal touch to the flooring, and a custom mural depicting crows became a focal point in the kitchen area.
The remodel wasn’t just about aesthetics—it was designed with functionality in mind. Spaces were crafted for entertaining, playing games, and creating art. One of the most rewarding challenges of the project was coordinating the many intricate details. From merging the outdoor grill with the kitchenette to balancing the various custom elements, the design required careful planning and execution. The result is a space that feels cohesive, natural, and deeply personal—a reflection of the couple’s lifestyle and aspirations.
This project celebrates the beauty of nature, the joy of gathering, and the importance of creating a home that tells a story. It’s a space ready for new memories, lively gatherings, and plenty of margaritas to toast to the future.
